Because Smileie is a fully at-home aligner treatment, you won’t have a dentist to evaluate you in person. Smileie’s website offers a brief assessment to help you determine whether you’ll be a good candidate before you buy.1
To begin treatment with Smileie, you’ll first order a mail-in impression kit. This kit includes instructions for taking an accurate impression of your teeth.
When you finish taking the impression, you’ll send it back to Smileie with the return shipping label included in your kit.
Once Smileie receives your impression, they’ll use it to develop your 3D treatment plan. You’ll be able to look at it and approve it.
After you approve the treatment plan, Smileie will create your aligners and send them to you. You’ll need to wear your aligners for at least 20 hours each day, only removing them for meals and oral hygiene.
An exception is Smileie Night-Time Aligners, which are meant to be worn only during sleep. (NewMouth doesn’t recommend night aligners because there is no peer-reviewed evidence that they’re safe or effective.)
Over the course of your treatment, you’ll periodically change your aligners (every 10 days) and track your progress online through your Smileie account. When you complete treatment, you’ll still need to wear retainers but you can switch to wearing retainers only at night.
You need to wear your retainers every night indefinitely, as failure to do so could result in your teeth moving out of the final aligned position. Aligners do not last forever and may need to be replaced every 12 to 24 months.
Follow your plan’s instructions and wear your retainer as directed. Improperly wearing your retainer could result in your teeth moving out of place again.
According to Smileie’s website, the average treatment time is about 6 months. You may start seeing changes within 6 to 8 weeks. If you choose night aligners, your treatment time may be closer to 10 months.
This does not include the time you’ll need to wear your retainer, which will vary by person.
The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recognizes clear aligners as a safe and effective option for treating minor teeth misalignment. Additionally, Smileie aligners are made without BPA, addressing a common safety concern and ensuring a safer treatment process.
