About SLX Clear Aligners

SLXTM Clear Aligners are an aligner system designed to straighten your teeth. Henry Schein Orthodontics debuted the brand in 2018. Henry Schein advertises that, when compared to their competitors, SLX clear aligners are more transparent and do not require attachments.

Clear aligners, or invisible braces, are transparent plastic trays molded to fit your teeth. They straighten teeth and repair minor tooth misalignments, or malocclusions.

Clear aligners differ from traditional braces in that they are invisible and removable. You can take them out to eat and brush your teeth.

SLX in particular boasts a more precise, customized fit. SLX cases can be jump started by using the unique Carriere® Motion 3D™ appliance, which can significantly reduce treatment time by a minimum of 6 months.1

Only mild cases of misaligned teeth and minor malocclusions should receive treatment using clear aligners. You might be eligible to use SLX Clear Aligners if you have:

  • Crowded or crooked teeth
  • Small gaps or spacing issues
  • Mild to moderate bite problems

Discuss SLX Clear Aligners with your orthodontist to see if this solution is right for you.

How SLX Works

Unlike some at-home aligner brands, SLX Clear Aligners require a visit to a dental professional to ensure an accurate mold of your teeth is made for your new appliance.

SLXTM Clear Aligners consist of a pair of plastic trays shaped to your teeth. They align your teeth over time by applying continuous light force.

How to Get Started

To get started with SLX Clear Aligners, make an appointment with an orthodontist. They will determine if the brand is a good choice for you.

If you decide to start treatment, the orthodontist will first scan your teeth. They will send the scans to SLX, who will manufacture your customized mold.

During your initial appointment, the orthodontist will use the Carriere® Motion 3D™ Appliance, which is unique to SLX. This appliance employs the SAGITTAL FIRST™ Philosophy, which standardizes, simplifies, and shortens the time to treat:

  • Class II misalignments (where the upper molars are too forward compared to the lower molars)
  • Class III misalignments (where the lower molars are too forward compared to the upper molars)

It applies gentle force to your teeth to jumpstart the alignment process.

The appliance resolves the most difficult part of the treatment first, before placing the aligners. In doing so, it can achieve a Class I occlusion, or ideal bite, in 3 to 6 months, shortening total treatment time by a minimum of 6 months.1

Treatment Process

Once you receive your aligners, you can proceed with treatment, during which you must wear your aligners all day and all night.

Typically, you should wear your aligner for 22 hours a day, unless otherwise directed by your provider.2 You may remove it to eat meals and brush and floss your teeth. You should also wear it while sleeping.

How Long Does Treatment Take?

Treatment times vary widely by person. The length of time you’ll need to wear aligners depends on the issue you’re treating and its complexity.

Treatment time can range from a few months to a few years. Your orthodontist can better estimate your treatment time based on needs.

SLX vs. Other Aligners

SLX Clear Aligners are just one aligner option. See how SLX compares with other brands to decide which one is right for you.

SLX vs. Invisalign

Invisalign is much more expensive than SLX Clear Aligners. It also requires the orthodontist to place attachments on the teeth.

SLX vs. Byte

Byte Aligners have day and night aligner options, whereas SLX Clear Aligners only have one all-purpose option. On average, Byte is more expensive than SLX, with an additional cost for the impression kit.

SLX vs. SmileDirectClub

SmileDirectClub is a brand of at-home clear aligners.

The company announced its bankruptcy liquidation on September 2023, ceasing aligner treatments and ending its lifetime guarantee.

Its global operations closed on December 2023 after failing to secure the funds needed to buy itself out of bankruptcy.

How this affects you will depend on which stage of the treatment process you’re in. You can read our customer guide for SmileDirectClub

SLX vs. NewSmile

NewSmile aligners are slightly cheaper than SLX aligners. Treatment time is also shorter, ranging from 4 to 6 months, but it doesn’t provide in-depth remote monitoring and care from a professional.

SLX vs. SureSmile

SureSmile is similar to SLX in that it requires regular visits to a dental professional and uses a scan to create the mold. SureSmile is significantly more expensive than SLX.

SLX vs. ClearCorrect

ClearCorrect aligners and SLX Clear Aligners have similar price ranges. ClearCorrect has several available plans, though not as many options as SLX.

Are SLX Aligners Right for You?

We recommend SLX Clear Aligners for anyone with mild to moderate crowded or crooked teeth or minor malocclusions. They can help rectify esthetic issues and straighten teeth.

Aligners aren’t recommended for anyone with more complex oral health issues, such as severe underbites, overbites, and crossbites. Your dentist or orthodontist can help determine if SLX Clear Aligners are right for you.
