My Experience Using the Oral-B Genius 8000

In my experience, the Oral-B Genius 8000 emits a distinct sound louder than other electric toothbrushes I’ve used. The oscillating, rotating, and pulsating action creates this increase in sound.

The app will prompt you to enter information about your oral hygiene goals. You can choose from the following pre-programmed routines:

The Oral-B app features: 

• Real-time feedback on your brushing technique and habits
• The time you spent brushing

Position Detection Software

The app uses Position Detection and facial recognition software to track where the electric toothbrush is in your mouth. As you brush, a blue bar turns from dark to light to demonstrate how long you should spend brushing each area. 

To use the Position Detection software, link your smartphone to the Oral-B Genius 8000 handle and place it in front of your face. You can use the included suction smartphone holder to attach your phone to your bathroom mirror.

My Experience with the Oral-B App

My experience with the Oral-B app and Position Detection software alternated between accurate results and glitches that impeded my ability to brush properly.

Here are my observations:

• The app can mistake which part of your mouth you’re brushing in
• You can get the various bars to turn light blue just by sitting on a single tooth
• The Oral-B app and Position Detection software are good supplementary tools

I hesitate to recommend using the app as you brush because it can increase the time you spend brushing and deliver a low return on investment.

Pressure Sensor

Oral-B installs a Triple Pressure Sensor on the Genius 8000 electric toothbrush. This sensor features an LED SmartRing that surrounds the toothbrush handle.

When you brush too hard, the LED SmartRing turns red to warn you. The Triple Pressure Sensor alerts you that you’re brushing too hard by slowing the motor.

The 360-degree SmartRing also displays one of 12 colors, which include: 

• Orange
• Blue
• Pink
• Purple
• White
• Green 

You can use these rings to tell toothbrush handles apart if your spouse or partner also has an Oral-B Genius 8000 electric toothbrush.

Battery Life

The Oral-B Genius 8000 electric toothbrush charges within 12 hours and lasts 12 days. You can also charge this electric toothbrush for 25 to 30 minutes if it’s low on charge before brushing your teeth.

A flashing red light will appear when the battery is low. A battery silhouette will appear on the toothbrush handle as it’s charging, each bar representing a third of the total charge.

Waterproof Feature

The Oral-B Genius 8000 electric toothbrush is IPX7-rated. You can immerse the handle in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes before it experiences a breakdown. This feature makes it useful for brushing your teeth in the shower if you prefer. 

I found the Oral-B Genius 8000 waterproof and helpful when brushing in the shower. I’m not afraid to rinse it under the water after brushing, either.

Is the Oral-B Genius 8000 Worth Its Price Tag?

In my experience, the Oral-B Genius 8000 electric toothbrush may not be worth the near-$200 price tag. The Oral-B app and Bluetooth connectivity are a smart idea, but only when executed effectively each time.

This particular electric toothbrush cleans my teeth effectively and allows me to tailor my brushing to my needs. However, it doesn’t wholly deliver upon the promise made by the Position Detection and Oral-B app connectivity via Bluetooth. 

I appreciate that the Oral-B Genius 8000 electric toothbrush has a 2-year warranty and the option to subscribe to regular brush head shipments. However, the Oral-B app felt more like a distraction during brushing than helpful in the feedback it provided.

How Does the Oral-B Genius 8000 Compare to Other Electric Toothbrushes I’ve Used?

Compared to other electric toothbrushes, the Oral-B Genius 8000 strikes me as the most technologically advanced. This electric toothbrush provides: 

• Bluetooth connectivity to my smartphone
• Several brushing modes to tailor my brushing experience
• Convenient compatibility with any Oral-B brush head

In addition, this Oral-B electric toothbrush comes with a charging travel case, which can also charge my smartphone. It’s an electric toothbrush that supports my oral health and easily integrates into my daily life.

Mode vs. Oral-B Genius 8000

The Mode electric toothbrush features a single brushing mode and only 38,000 vibrations per minute. It lacks the 3D Cleaning power’s oscillations and rotations and the Triple Pressure Sensor of the Oral-B electric toothbrush.

Mode does not sell its electric toothbrush with a travel case. It also lacks Oral-B’s brush head selection.

SNOW LED Electric Toothbrush vs. Oral-B Genius 8000

SNOW LED electric toothbrushes feature different brushing modes and an industry-leading blue LED light. While you can switch out the brush heads for a tongue cleaner or face brush, SNOW Cosmetics LLC doesn’t sell different brush head styles.

Unlike the Oral-B Genius 8000, the SNOW LED electric toothbrush has a travel case that doesn’t charge the toothbrush.

AquaSonic Vibe Series Electric Toothbrush vs. Oral-B Genius 8000

The AquaSonic Vibe Series electric toothbrush comes with a similar simple travel case. However, it lacks the blue LED of the SNOW LED electric toothbrush, the Triple Pressure Sensor, and the Bluetooth connectivity of the Oral-B Genius 8000.

AquaSonic does sell activated charcoal brush head replacements, but the bristle pattern remains the same.

How Did the Oral-B Genius 8000 Measure Up Against Similarly Priced Toothbrushes?
