Is Supersmile’s Whitening Toothpaste Worth It?
You might want to splurge on Supersmile’s Professional Whitening Toothpaste if you have stained crowns, veneers, or dental fillings, or if you have hard-to-reach stains on your molars.
But when some whitening toothpastes cost only $4 for a 4 oz. tube, spending $25 on the same amount of Supersmile toothpaste can be hard to justify. I bought one and tried it for two weeks.

I tested the product for two weeks and used NewMouth’s team of in-house dentists and researchers to assess its ingredients, results, and tradeoffs based on customer feedback.

Pros & Cons of Supersmile Toothpaste
I used Supersmile’s Professional Whitening Toothpaste and read hundreds of reviews. Here are my thoughts on it:
What I Like About Supersmile
- Slow, but it works. It took weeks and a lot of patience before I noticed changes in my smile, but it did brighten my teeth.
- Great option if you’ve had dental work. It’s the only whitening toothpaste I tried that effectively lifted the coffee stains on my dental fillings.
- You get more consistent results. It whitens teeth on all sides (including hard-to-reach spots) and not just the outer surface that people see.
- Requires little effort. Unlike teeth whitening kits or strips, it fits easily into my daily routine. All I have to do is brush regularly.
- Seems gentle enough. It didn’t make my teeth sensitive or hurt my gums in the two weeks I used the product.
- Cleans pretty well. Like my regular toothpaste, Supersmile does a good job of cleaning my teeth and leaving my mouth feeling fresh.
- Has unique flavors. I tried Mandarin Mint and loved it. I’ve read good reviews of Cinnamon, so I want to try that one next.
What I Don’t Like About Supersmile
- People don’t get the same results. Some users get very white teeth, while others see little change.
- It’s potentially abrasive. Some ingredients can wear down enamel, which can increase your risk for sensitivity and stains.
- Buying it feels like a gamble. Like any teeth whitening product, it may work for you or it may not.
- May not be worth the cost. It’s hard to justify the price when there are cheaper whitening toothpastes on the market.
My Experience Using Supersmile Toothpaste
I chose the original Professional Whitening Toothpaste so I would have something to compare with if I tried other Supersmile toothpastes.
I bought the smallest tube I could find (4 oz.) to test the product at a reasonable price. The same amount of regular toothpaste only costs $9.
Then I used it for two weeks to see how long it would last.
Before & After Results
My teeth were fairly white from previous whitening products, but I did have coffee stains on my lower molars that I wanted to remove.
The stains were more noticeable around my dental fillings. Most products I tried, including strips and LED kits, could not reach them, so a toothpaste I could brush over them made more sense.
One week later: I didn’t see any difference on the visible side of my teeth, the part you see when you smile. That did not disappoint me, since they did not need much whitening to begin with.
But I was thrilled when I noticed that the stains on my molars had gotten lighter. So I continued to brush daily with Supersmile.
Two weeks later: The stains on my lower molars and their dental fillings were completely gone. Their color was also more consistent with the rest of my smile, so they now look evenly white.
Sensitivity & Other Side Effects
In the two weeks I used Supersmile’s Professional Whitening Toothpaste, my teeth never felt sensitive or had the “zingers.” My gums were also fine and did not burn or get irritated.
Taste and Texture
Directions are printed on the back of the tube and are easy to follow. I liked the flip-top cap because I didn’t have to worry about losing it.
However, I found the tube to be too stiff. Squeezing it can be a challenge, and it is hard to tell how much toothpaste is left. I’ve read about people cutting a seemingly empty tube in half only to find more toothpaste inside.
Other than those minor inconveniences, it was easy to fit into my routine. You’re supposed to use it twice a day, once in the morning and once before bedtime, and brush for 2 minutes each time without water before rinsing.
The Mandarin Mint flavor I picked tasted great. I liked that the toothpaste was thick—it gave me confidence that it was cleaning my teeth.
Its slightly grainy texture didn’t feel too harsh or gritty, but it was still enough to make me worry about my enamel.

Is Supersmile Toothpaste Safe For Your Teeth?
I investigated the ingredients in Supersmile’s Professional Whitening Toothpaste (with help from NewMouth’s research team, of course).
Based on what we found, it should be safe when used as directed, though it contains mildly abrasive ingredients that can wear enamel over time. Ask your dentist how often you should brush with it and how long you can use it.
While it may cause temporary sensitivity in some people, the formula can strengthen your teeth and improve your overall dental health:
- Supersmile has a Relative Dentin Abrasivity (RDA) value of 62 and may cause “low abrasion” on your enamel.
- The toothpaste mainly uses Calprox® to whiten teeth. It’s a proprietary blend that contains calcium peroxide and minerals.
- Calcium peroxide releases hydrogen peroxide when it mixes with water. Both are proven to be safe and effective at whitening teeth.
- Calcium peroxide provides the added benefit of remineralizing teeth. It increases the calcium content of the enamel, improving its hardness.
- Like other peroxides, calcium peroxide can cause gum irritation and tooth sensitivity. These side effects tend to be mild and temporary.
- Another ingredient is sodium monofluorophosphate (SMFP). SMFP reduces plaque and dental caries, decreasing your risk for cavities.
- Sodium monofluorophosphate remineralizes the enamel with fluoride. Remineralization can lower your risk for sensitive teeth.
- Supersmile’s toothpaste contains other ingredients (calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate) that can remove surface stains on your teeth.
- Calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate are mildly abrasive, however. They can damage the enamel if you don’t use them carefully.
All Supersmile toothpastes are vegan, kosher, and cruelty-free. They do not contain bisphenol A (BPA), silica, parabens, sulfates, or known allergens.
What Customers Say About Supersmile
Supersmile’s Professional Whitening Toothpaste received 4.2 out of 5 stars from more than 5,300 reviews on Amazon.
I wanted to see whether other people’s experiences matched mine, so I asked NewMouth’s research team to gather customer feedback and watch for trends.
Positive Reviews on Supersmile Toothpaste
Many reviewers are satisfied with the product. They say it whitens teeth and dental work like crowns, veneers, implants, and dentures:
My teeth have become blinding white. My dentist even asked me what I was using because the difference was so drastic-as I had hoped it would be!
I have a smile full of crowns, which had become stained due to coffee. In one treatment my teeth were 90% whiter! The difference was very noticeable. After 3 more treatments, even the stains between my teeth are almost gone.
I have been using this toothpaste for almost a week, and the results I’ve seen so far are great! I’ve tried a lot of whitening toothpastes over the years and haven’t seen a noticeable difference. Within three days of using Supersmile, my smile has been noticeably whiter. I am so happy with these results! Unlike other whitening products, Supersmile’s toothpaste doesn’t cause sensitivity in most people:
It did not make my teeth feel sensitive. I can eat and drink cold items without feeling pangs in the same way other bleaching toothpastes have.
I’m so glad I decided to try this toothpaste! Not only does it work, but it’s so incredibly gentle! I seem to have become sensitive to whitening products, be it toothpaste or otherwise. They all either leave my gums raw or cause tooth sensitivity. Not so with this toothpaste!
I have sensitive teeth so I am careful with the whitening products I choose. This one is very gentle, never felt any sensitivity after using it, unlike other mass-produced products you get in a retail store. Some users like the taste and flavors enough to have clear favorites:
So glad I found this and the orange minty flavor is great.
This cinnamon toothpaste is a very savory and surprisingly almost natural tasting toothpaste. The cinnamon flavor in this is so bold that I smelled it through Amazon’s packaging. I liked it better than Mandarin Mint.
Rosewater mint is the best-makes me want to brush. This flavor is very very good in my honest opinion. This is the best toothpaste flavor I have ever tried, as most make me gag. Literally, I cannot stand minty flavors.
Negative Reviews on Supersmile Toothpaste
Some customers didn’t notice any whitening effects while others didn’t get the results they wanted, despite using the toothpaste for a while:
I have been using it for a month, but I don’t see the difference at all. It’s a gentle toothpaste with a decent scent, but no whitening results for me.
I was hoping for magical results which I didn’t get, but it did improve the whiteness of my teeth. I think the initial use did the most. After that, it petered out a bit. It does work, just not as incredibly as I hoped.
I have used this product off and on for several years. I find that with repeated usage, it will lighten the teeth several shades, so it does work better than regular whitening toothpastes. For the best results though, one has to use this toothpaste in conjunction with bleaching, proper dietary habits, flossing, etc. for the overall whitest teeth. Even doing all the above, I have never gotten my teeth to the dazzling whiteness, as seen on TV. A few people also experienced sensitivity with Supersmile’s toothpaste:
This whitening toothpaste may work but it is not for sensitive teeth. Only used one time and was not able to use again.
Used it twice a day until the tube was gone. The difference I saw was extremely minimal at best. I also did start to have issues because I have very sensitive teeth and after a while, it did start to bother them.
Purchased this product for whitening upon my dentist’s recommendation. He warned me that some products of this nature cause sensitivity and gum irritation. He wasn’t wrong! After using the product for only a few days, my gums are inflamed and I have painful teeth sensitivity, especially to heat or cold. Some users thought the product wasn’t worth the cost, even when it worked for them:
I was hoping for better results. Considering the cost for one tube of toothpaste.
The whitening power is definitely good. The flavor is nice. But the downside is it doesn’t keep my breath fresh and it is sure as heck not worth the price at all.
Doesn’t work well at all, and I use a rotary electric toothbrush. The price made me believe reviews that this would whiten bonding on teeth that turned yellow. It does nothing like one reviewer said. It does not do any better than regular cheap toothpaste to whiten. I don’t recommend wasting your money on this at all. View the best enamel-safe teeth whitening products.

Final Thoughts on Supersmile Toothpaste
Supersmile’s Professional Whitening Toothpaste is a strong option for stubborn stains and dental work that needs some lightening. Unlike teeth strips or LED kits, it can whiten more evenly. Its gentle formula is also a plus for many reviewers.
However, other products can give you better value for your money, depending on what you’re looking for:
- For faster teeth whitening — Opalescence Go and its pre-filled whitening trays can lighten your teeth evenly on all sides in a matter of days.
- For a fluoride-free alternative — Boka’s Teeth Whitening Toothpaste uses nano-hydroxyapatite instead of abrasives to whiten your teeth over time.
- For a less abrasive formula — Rembrandt Intense Stain has an RDA value of 53 and is one of the best whitening toothpastes we recommend.
