What are Remi Night Guards?

Remi custom night guards

Remi upper teeth and lower teeth night guards are custom-made to fit your teeth to prevent the harmful effects of bruxism, including:1

  • Jaw pain
  • Headaches
  • Cracked or worn-down teeth
  • Indentations on your tongue
  • Teeth sensitivity
  • Disturbed sleep

The dental-grade night guards are fabricated in the U.S. and are made of clear, BPA-free plastic. You can choose from three thickness options without an upcharge:

  • 1mm
  • 1.3mm
  • 2mm

Remi’s custom night guards have a hard outer layer and a soft inner layer, making them solid and comfortable. We recommend starting with a thinner night guard around 1mm thick. However, if you grind or clench particularly hard at night, consider purchasing a thicker mouth guard to withstand this extra pressure.

Pros and Cons of Remi Night Guards

What Customers Are Saying

Many customers found the experience to be pleasant, including the following praise in their positive Remi reviews:

  • Affordable night guards
  • Customization options for thickness preference
  • Good overall value
  • Comfortable to wear
  • Excellent customer service
  • Easy and convenient to create custom night guards
  • Custom-fit
  • Professional results

Unfortunately, some customers had a less-than-perfect experience:

  • Difficulty with taking impressions, specifically the top teeth
  • Longer turnaround time than expected
  • Issues with quality and fit
  • Lack of communication from customer support
  • Material can be too thin for some (especially those with severe bruxism)

Remi Night Guard: How it Works

You can order your custom night guards via Remi’s website or Amazon. From ordering your impression kit to receiving your night guards, the process takes around two weeks (depending on shipping times).

Order Impression Kit

Remi requires you to choose between making a one-time purchase or subscribing to Remi Club:

  • One-time purchase — Includes two night guards (two upper, two lower, or one of each) and full-price replacements upon request.
  • Remi Club subscription — Pay a lower price up-front for the same package and automatically receive two new guards every 6 months for $59.

Once you add your selection to the cart, enter your personal information and address to ship the impression kit to your door.

Take Impressions and Mail Them Back

Your impression kit should arrive within 2 to 4 days of Remi receiving your order. The impression kit includes the following:

  • Two sets of impression trays (one big and one small)
  • Two small tubs of blue putty
  • Two small tubs of white putty
  • Instructional manual
  • Customer information card
  • Thank you card
  • Prepaid mailing label

Select the tray that best fits your mouth when you’re ready to take your impressions. Mix one tub of white putty and one tub of blue putty. Evenly fill the impression tray with the dental putty and place it on your upper or lower dental arch.

Bite down with even pressure and then release. Take the impression tray out and repeat for the opposite arch.

When you’ve completed your impressions, use the prepaid mailing label to return them to Remi.

Receive and Wear Your Custom Night Guards

You should receive your new custom night guards within a week or two of returning your impressions.

Remi offers a 45-Night Perfect Fit Guarantee to help address fit issues:

  • If you are not 100% satisfied with your Remi night guard, contact the company (within 45 days of receiving your night guard) to resolve the issue.
  • Remi may send you a complimentary impression kit to retake your impressions if your custom fit needs to be corrected.

Remi Club subscribers will receive two identical custom night guards every 6 months until they pause, skip, or cancel their membership. Remi automatically charges these replacements at $59.

How Much Do Remi Night Guards Cost?

Remi offers two options for purchasing night guards:

  • One-time purchase — $189
  • Remi Club subscription — $129

You can also split up your Remi purchase into four interest-free payments. Remi offers free shipping no matter which option you choose.

Compare this to the cost of a professional night guard that requires at least two dentist visits. These dental mouthguards cost $700 on average.1

Remi Club

Subscribing to Remi Club can save you money in the long run. Six months after you purchase your night guards, you’ll receive a new pair. If you chose the one-time purchase option, you’d instead have to pay full price for any replacement night guards.

You can pause, skip, or cancel your Remi Club subscription anytime. If you need to change the date of your subscription, simply contact customer support. Remi will save your impressions for life.

Does Insurance Cover Remi?

Most insurance plans don’t cover Remi night guards since they are typically considered cosmetic. If you’re unsure if your insurance covers your Remi night guards, contact them to speak to a representative.

Can I Use an FSA or HSA?

You can use your flexible spending account (FSA) or health savings account (HSA) to pay for your Remi night guards. Keep any receipts to show proof of purchase.

Remi vs. Other Brands

Remi competes directly with Cheeky and ClearClub. Remi’s custom night guards are more expensive than a “boil and bite” solution at your local Walgreens or CVS.

Some customers might find Remi’s night guards a more convenient and affordable solution than those you order from a dentist.

Remi vs. ClearClub

ClearClub, like Remi, is FSA/HSA eligible. You can purchase upper, lower, or upper and lower night guards.

Prices start at $158 for a set of 1.3mm thick night guards and go above $300 if you choose thicker ones. Shipping costs vary.

You can also opt into the Renewal Plan subscription, which costs:

  • $55 to receive new night guards every 3 months
  • $65 to receive new night guards every 4 months
  • $85 to receive new night guards every 6 months

If you choose a 2mm thickness, you can pick between green, blue, and pink custom night guards. However, 2mm is the only thickness available for this type of customization.

ClearClub offers night guards in 10 different colors and designs. The guards are made from a hard outer and soft inner material.

Like Remi, ClearClub sends your custom night guards within 1 to 2 weeks of receiving your impressions. These night guards are free from:

  • BPA
  • Latex
  • Allergens

ClearClub offers a 60-day money-back guarantee if your custom night guards don’t fit. This is slightly longer than Remi’s 45-Night Perfect Fit Guarantee. If your custom guards don’t fit perfectly, ClearClub customer support may send you a new impression kit for free.

Remi vs. Cheeky

Cheeky’s prices mirror ClearClub’s and are again slightly higher than Remi’s:

  • $131 for one night guard (upper or lower)
  • $161 for upper and lower night guards

Once you purchase your custom night guards, Cheeky mails your impression kit within 3 to 5 business days. You can use the same box the impression kit came in to ship it back.

After Cheeky receives your impressions, it takes about 5 to 7 business days to receive your custom night guards.

The brand offers several customization options to personalize your night guard:

  • Thickness — 1.5mm, 2mm, and 3mm
  • Material — BPA- and latex-free
  • Guard Type — soft or soft/hard hybrid

A Cheeky hybrid night guard also doubles as a retainer.

Cheeky’s return policy is also more generous than Remi’s. If you have issues with your custom night guard, Cheeky offers a full money-back guarantee at any point and will send you a free impression kit if you have problems with the fit.

Remi vs. JS Dental Lab

JS Dental Lab’s night guards are in a similar price range to Remi’s. They start at $125, with premium guards up to $185. Their night guards are also HSA/FSA eligible.

JS Dental Lab’s night guards are made from BPA/phthalate-free plastic. You can choose from thicknesses of 1.5mm, 2.5 mm, and 3mm.

There are six different types of night guards available at JS Dental Lab:

  • Hybrid at $145
  • Extra Durable at $145
  • Premium 3D at $185
  • Durable at $135
  • Daytime at $125
  • Soft at $125

The process starts by ordering an impression kit, which you’ll mail back to the lab afterward. It can take around 3 business days to ship your guard back to you.

JS Dental Lab stands out for its 365-day satisfaction guarantee. According to your website,  you can receive a full refund within 365 days if you are not completely happy with the product.

What is Bruxism? How Do Night Guards Help?

Many people grind or clench their jaw, often as a stress response. This habit of clenching or grinding teeth is called bruxism.2 It can happen at night while you sleep or during the day when you’re stressed.

In addition to wearing down your teeth and causing jaw pain, bruxism can lead to sensitive teeth and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) issues.3 This joint helps you to open and close your mouth.

Night guards help relieve the stress from bruxism on your jaw and teeth. These dental-grade plastic trays fit over your teeth and prevent your upper and lower teeth from contacting each other directly. They relieve pressure from your jaw and protect your teeth from damaging one another during bruxism.

Is Remi Worth the Cost?

Remi offers affordable night guards with the flexibility to replace them every 6 months through a subscription service. It’s an easy set-it-and-forget-it structure with no obligation.

Customers can also use the 45-Night Perfect Fit Guarantee to ensure a custom, comfortable fit. Remi can’t match Cheeky’s shipping speed or ClearClub’s customization options. However, it offers a straightforward way to prevent bruxism’s ill effects.

Should I Purchase Upper or Lower Night Guards?

One guard is enough to reduce the effects of bruxism and protect your upper and lower teeth and jaw from clenching and grinding. Most people select the night guard that’s most comfortable to wear based on personal preference.

Upper mouth guards are often more comfortable than lower guards since they don’t interfere with your tongue. However, Remi allows you to request two upper guards or two lower guards.4

Summary

Remi custom night guards are an affordable alternative to costly professional night guards from the dentist and one-size-fits-all “boil and bite” drugstore solutions.

Joining Remi Club gives you the best value with a set-it-and-forget-it cycle to receive new night guards every 6 months. You can change or cancel your membership anytime and use the 45-Night Perfect Fit Guarantee if you have issues.

With lower rates than ClearClub and Cheeky and a better value, it’s easy to see why Remi is one of the most popular at-home custom night guard solutions.
